Sacked Bank Staff Who Defrauds People By wearing Bank’s T-Shirt Is Arraigned

A 31-year-old woman, Adenike Okuneye has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate court for allegedly parading herself as a staff of Fidelity Bank months after she was sacked and collecting money from customers of the bank with the pretext of saving it for them but ended up converting it to her personal use.

The Prosecutor, Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the management of
the bank had laid a complaint to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in
charge of Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, Lagos, after it
discovered the fraud she was perpetrating. On the order of the DPO, CSP
Folashade Tanaruno, the suspect who resides in Mushin was arrested.

After an investigation by the police, she was arraigned before an
Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a 3-count charge of felony to wit.
stealing. Prosecuting officer, Cyriacus Osuji told the court that
Adenike would go about wearing the bank’s T-Shirt during working hours
to ask unsuspecting bank customers to deposit N50, 000 which she claimed
the bank would help them save. The unsuspecting bank customers would
then oblige her because they had known her to be working in the bank.
Adenike would afterwards disappear with their money.

The prosecuting officer said that nemesis caught up with her when one
of the aggrieved customers of the bank who knew that the accused was no
longer with the Fidelity Bank reported her to the bank leading to her
arrest.

Osuji said that the offence the accused committed was punishable
under sections 72, 314 (A) and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State,
2015.

When she was arraigned, Adenike pleaded not guilty to the alleged
crime. The magistrate, S.K Matepo, granted her bail in the sum of N50,
000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till October
9th, 2017 for mention. The magistrate ordered that she should be
remanded in the Kirikiri prisons until she fulfills her bail conditions.
