Broadcaster Rufai Oseni of Arise TV has called on security agencies to investigate a social media user who appeared to celebrate the recent attack on former presidential candidate Peter Obi in Edo State.
Obi and several leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were reportedly assaulted by suspected thugs on Tuesday while visiting the residence of former Edo State governor Odigie Oyegun for a party meeting.
Following the incident, an X user identified as Engr Tom Steve posted comments suggesting Obi was fortunate to have survived and made further remarks implying potential future attacks, a development that has drawn public concern.
Reacting to the post, Oseni said the individual behind the account should be invited for questioning, stressing that statements perceived as threats or incitement to violence must be treated seriously by law enforcement authorities.
The attack and subsequent online reactions have continued to generate debate nationwide, with calls mounting for improved security for political actors and stricter monitoring of inflammatory online content.
