World-renowned football star Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about the heartwarming moment his children inspired him to finally propose to his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez.
The 40-year-old forward, who announced his engagement in August after nine years with the Argentine-Spanish model, revealed that the proposal was completely unplanned.
In a recent interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, Ronaldo said the touching moment happened late at night when their two daughters unexpectedly walked in.
“It was like 1 a.m. My daughters were sleeping,” Ronaldo recalled. “One of my friends gave me the ring to offer Gio (Georgina), and as I was giving her the ring, my two kids came in and said, ‘Daddy, you’re going to give the ring to mum and you’re going to ask her to get married.’
“I said, ‘Wow, this is the right moment to say yes.’ I knew I would do it one day, but I hadn’t planned to do it then.”
Ronaldo said he didn’t go down on one knee but made a heartfelt speech, describing the moment as “beautiful.”
“I’m not a very romantic guy — well, I am, but not the type who brings flowers every week. I’m romantic in my own way,” he said. “It was beautiful, and I knew she was the woman of my life.”
Georgina later confirmed the engagement on Instagram, sharing a photo of her sparkling £1.5 million ring with the caption: “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.”
