The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rivers State, has expelled a final-year student, Chiamaka Onyewuenyi Nora, following a viral video in which she alleged that a lecturer was writing her final-year project for ₦150,000.
The student, who was in the Department of English and Literary Studies, was expelled by the university’s Senate over what the institution described as “damaging content creation.”
In a statement issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, said the decision was taken after the video of the student’s interview with a content creator circulated widely on social media.
According to the university, Nora claimed in the video that her project topic was “Citizenship” and that her supervisor was responsible for writing the research work for her. However, the institution disputed the claim, stating that there was no project topic titled “Citizenship” in the department.
The university further alleged that the student admitted her claims were untrue and explained that she made them to generate social media content. The institution said it considered the content damaging to its reputation and would not tolerate such conduct.
“The Senate has expelled Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora, a final-year student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, over damaging content creation. The expulsion is to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to do the same,” the statement read.
The university’s decision has drawn attention to the controversy surrounding the viral video and the allegations about the alleged payment for project writing.
However, the university’s statement, as reported, did not indicate whether an investigation was conducted into the allegation against the lecturer or whether any disciplinary action was taken against the staff member.
The student’s response to the expulsion and whether she intends to challenge the decision have not been reported.
