Residents of Achida in Wurno Local Government Area, Sokoto State, have repelled an attack by suspected bandits, resulting in the death of one of the assailants.
The development was disclosed by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.
According to security and local sources, the armed attackers stormed the community but were met with resistance from residents and local vigilante groups.
Following a brief confrontation, the attackers were forced to retreat as the combined efforts of the locals overwhelmed them.
During the encounter, one of the suspected bandits was killed, while others fled the scene. Some of the fleeing suspects are believed to have sustained injuries.
Sources noted that the swift response of residents and vigilante members played a key role in foiling the attack.
Security personnel are expected to sustain patrols and launch follow-up operations in the area to track down fleeing suspects and prevent further incidents.
