Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced that ₦20 billion has been raised toward completing the long-delayed National Library project.

She made the disclosure on Tuesday while hosting State House correspondents at a luncheon in the Presidential Villa to mark her 65th birthday.

Tinubu described the library project as her chosen legacy gift to the nation, explaining that instead of cakes, gifts, or adverts, she asked Nigerians to channel their goodwill into supporting the initiative through the Oluremi @65 Education Fund.

Dismissing suggestions that the project carried political undertones, the First Lady said her motivation was service.

“I want to clear the air about some people saying it has a political undertone. What is wrong in doing well?” she asked.

Reflecting on her 12 years in the Senate, where she served on the Committee on Education, Tinubu said her humble background deepened her appreciation for libraries.

“From a humble background, the library played a role in my life. That’s why I thought this is a worthy cause,” she explained.

She emphasized that education remains central to national development and pledged sustained commitment to projects that will benefit future generations.
