The Police Service Commission (PSC) has met with representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to conclude arrangements for a more transparent, credible, and improved 2025 police recruitment exercise.
In a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, the Commission said the recruitment will cover Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Constables. The meeting, themed “Collaborative Approach for a Transparent and Equitable Police Recruitment Process”, was held to strengthen cooperation between the PSC and state governments.
PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, assured that the Commission will work closely with states to ensure transparency and fairness. He urged state governments to safeguard their recruitment quotas and prevent hijacking of the process.
“We have resolved to eradicate connivance and resist trading or purchase of slots. Special consideration will not be allowed to supplant merit and equity. We want to stop corruption in the system and open up the exercise to promote healthy competition and equitable spread,” Argungu stated.
Also speaking, retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, PSC commissioner representing the judiciary, said the Commission was established to ensure equity and fairness in police recruitment and operations, and will no longer tolerate hijacking of the process. “We will rely on you to confirm that those to be recruited are from your states,” he said.
Similarly, retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, commissioner representing the police in the PSC, reaffirmed the management’s commitment to reinventing the recruitment process to produce the best Nigerian youths for the Nigeria Police Force.
