Protesters on Wednesday stormed the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, demanding that President Bola Tinubu remove Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The protesters faulted Wike’s appointment, noting that the former Rivers State governor is not a member of the APC, despite being entrusted with a key position in the current administration.
President Tinubu had appointed Wike as FCT Minister after assuming office, a decision that has continued to generate controversy within political circles.
Wike has also been embroiled in a prolonged political crisis with leaders and members of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Reports indicate that the rift has deepened in recent weeks.
In a related development, the FCT Minister was reported to have cautioned the National Secretary of the APC to stay out of Rivers State politics, a move that further stirred reactions within the ruling party.
