The nominees submitted by the Presidency for the confirmation and
appointment of board members for the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory
Commission (NERC) in accordance with section 34 of the Electric Power
Sector reform CAP E7 LFN and Nigerian Communication Commission(NCC) was
read at plenary by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
NERC was presented with the following members for
confirmation, Professor Akintunde I. Akinwande – Chairman; Sanusi Garba –
Vice Chairman; Nathan R. Shanti – Commissioner; Dr. Moses Arigu –
Commissioner; Dafe C. Akpeneye – Commissioner; Professor Frank Okafor –
Commissioner and Dr. Musiliu O. Oseni – Commissioner.
Those presented for the Nigerian Communication Commission are Senator
Olabiyi Durajaiye – Chairman; Sunday Dare – Executive Commissioner;
Aliyu Sa’ida Abubakar – Stakeholders Management; Clement Omeiza Baiye –
Non executive Commissioner; Chief Okoi Ofem Obono Obia – Non executive
Commissioner; Pastor Ezekiel Yissa – Non executive Commissioner; Senator
Ifeanyi Ararume – Non executive Commissioner.
The motion to commence debate on the economy from tomorrow sponsored by
Senator Ali Ndume, was also approved. The requests by the President to
confirm the Chairman and Members of the Niger Delta Development
Commission and appoint Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria were
both declined to another legislative day.
