Reports has it that there was sporadic shooting within Angwan Rukuba a
suburb of Jos, Plateau State, at night on Sunday 13th March. matthewteghaBLOG Speaking to the DPO of the area, Yahaya Umar confirmed that there was a call last night from the vigilanty of the area within the hours of
8pm. That there was a party at Gimbia Suits where a clash brewed and
someone was reported stabbed, the police responded and got to the spot of the clash and
picked a couple of miscreants who were constituting nuisance.
The police later met with a road block of youths which led to a clash as the police shot in the air to send away youths, there was sporadic gun shots as the youths where alleged to be armed.
Also speaking to residents, it was gathered that the police actually came to rescue the purported fight at the party scene but the youths, alleged that the police infringed on their rights by teaming up with the vigilanty group to beat up and tried to arrest a few youths in which four youths were shot, this led to a reaction from youths.
The police DPO also confirmed there was a shoot out and some youths had gunshot wounds but insisted they were not police bullets as the injuries were from cartridges as the police do not use guns with cartridges.
The youths within the area, later took laws to their hands after the police had left the scene by pulling down the
nearby police post and burning police properties and tyres on the road that night. As
at this morning there was heavy presence of security personal at the
spot. It will be recalled that there was a bomb blast at the same spot which led to a full blown crises some years back.
