Police Rescue Suspect From Mob After Alleged Human Leg Found in Sack

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have rescued a 20-year-old suspect, Garuba Aminu, from a mob after a severed leg suspected to be human was reportedly found in his possession in Oyo.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the commercial Oroki area of Oyo, where the suspect, who allegedly posed as a scavenger, drew suspicion from residents due to his unusual movements.

Confirming the development, the Command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said alert community members conducted a search on the suspect and discovered the suspected human body part concealed in a sack filled with waste plastic bottles.

He explained that upon receiving the report, a joint patrol team of the police and other security agencies swiftly moved to the scene, where an angry crowd had gathered with the intention of lynching the suspect. Officers dispersed the mob and took the suspect into custody, while the recovered exhibit was secured for forensic examination.

According to the police, the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Command commended residents for their vigilance, noting that their prompt action aided the suspect’s arrest and reinforced the importance of community participation in crime prevention. It also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for promoting proactive policing and strengthening community partnerships nationwide.

While urging residents to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities promptly, the police cautioned against mob action, stressing that taking the law into one’s hands is unlawful and may obstruct justice.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
