The Kogi State Police Command has rescued 10 of the 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.
The corps members were reportedly travelling to Abuja after completing their three-week orientation programme at the NYSC orientation camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State when armed assailants attacked their vehicles on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarufi, confirmed the rescue to journalists, saying security operatives were intensifying efforts to locate and rescue the remaining five corps members.
According to the police commissioner, security personnel are currently combing surrounding forests and other suspected hideouts where the remaining victims may have been taken.
Kankarufi also disclosed that several suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack and are assisting security agencies with their investigation.
The abduction had sparked concerns over the safety of corps members travelling across the country, particularly those returning from the NYSC orientation programme.
The police command said operations would continue until all the abducted corps members are safely recovered and those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
