A viral video has emerged showing a man known as “Shawarma,” allegedly a political thug, claiming he killed 32 people in Ibadan, Oyo State, while expressing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

In the footage, Shawarma, appearing with other suspected political loyalists, said the killings occurred in self-defence during violent confrontations. “When they wanted to kill me and tried to suppress me in Ibadan, I reacted and killed 32 people. Nigerian Police saw me; they told me to go home. Nigerian soldiers saw me and said I tried,” he stated. He added, “Asiwaju 2027, he is our oga,” pledging loyalty to Tinubu.

The video has raised public concern over political violence and the alleged inaction of security agencies. Responding, the Oyo State Police Command denied any prior knowledge of Shawarma, stating there is no record of his arrest.

“The Oyo State Police Command has launched a thorough investigation into the allegations and the confessional statements contained in the video,” said DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Police Public Relations Officer. The probe will use digital forensics and footprint analysis to ensure a credible outcome.

The police have appealed to the public to assist in identifying and apprehending Shawarma and any accomplices. Updates on the investigation will be provided as progress is made.

The incident underscores growing concerns over political thuggery and violence in Nigeria as early alignments for the 2027 elections begin.
