The video of a child drowning in a children’s swimming pool making rounds on social media is not Nigerian music star Davido’s son.

Many has misrepresented the victim in the viral video to be Ifeanyi Adeleke whose death is being investigated by the police.

Police spokesperson in Lagos has described the video as “fake”.

“We haven’t even begin going through the content of the CCTV we collected from Davido’s house.

“Any video you see online is not the real one. It’s fake,” Benjamin Hundeyin tell news correspondents.

Also, checks by the BBC Disinformation Unit shows that the video is not from Nigeria.

The Unit discovered that the CCTV footage going viral in Nigeria is that of a two-year-old boy in China.

Checks reveal that the viral video of the drowning child happened in China on the 23rd August, 2019. Adding that the story at the time also trended on all platforms.

Meanwhile, Davido and his fiancée Chioma are yet to comment on their child’s death.

However, the nanny and cook who were directly in charge of Ifeanyi’s welfare are still in Police custody and might be liable for negligence charges.

This is according to a reliable source who plead anonymity.

“The cook and the nanny were the ones directly with the child, so, they are guilty of negligence until the autopsy is conducted. During investigation, we have suspects, and depending on the case, the suspects may or may not be released.”
