Police Arrest Suspect Over Alleged Killing of Childhood Friend Who Just Returned From Abroad

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Amadin Williams, in connection with the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas, in Oben community, Ikpoba-Okah Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the arrest on Sunday, December 28, 2025, stating that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

According to reports, the deceased had recently returned from abroad with his family to celebrate Christmas. He was reportedly attacked and killed during a housewarming party in the community.

Following the incident, the suspect allegedly fled Oben community, raising suspicion among residents. He was later tracked and arrested in Benin City, where he was said to be hiding.

Confirming the incident, a police source said Eghosa Osas, aged 43, was allegedly killed by his childhood friend for reasons yet to be determined.

“The late Eghosa had returned from abroad to celebrate Christmas with his family. He was attacked and killed at Oben community during a housewarming party,” the source said.

Ikoedem explained that the case was reported to the police by the victim’s elder brother. She said preliminary findings revealed that Eghosa had stepped out briefly when the suspect allegedly confronted him and inflicted a fatal machete injury.

“The report of the murder is true, and the suspect, Amadin Williams, believed to be the victim’s childhood friend, is currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” she added.
