The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a fifth suspect in connection with the alleged mob killing of 25-year-old model, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as Ibee, in Jos.
Mbaya, a graduate of the University of Jos, was allegedly accused of stealing an iPhone before he was attacked and beaten by a mob, an assault that reportedly led to his death.
The latest suspect, identified as 24-year-old Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, a presidential aspirant of the University of Jos Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA), was arrested following intelligence gathered by detectives investigating the case.
Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Alfred Alabo, said preliminary investigations revealed that Beskeni allegedly played an active role in the assault.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly helped tie Mbaya to a pole while members of the mob subjected him to severe torture.
“The Plateau State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has recorded another significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the alleged culpable homicide of Ibrahim Mbaya, following the arrest of an additional suspect connected to the tragic incident,” the statement read.
“While acting upon credible intelligence gathered, our detectives arrested one Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, male, 24 years old.
“Preliminary investigation and evidence gathered revealed that the suspect allegedly played an active role in the unlawful assault on the deceased.
“He is specifically alleged to have participated in tying the deceased to a pole while he was subjected to severe torture by members of the mob, an act which ultimately resulted in the victim’s death.”
The police said Beskeni remains in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who are still at large.
The Acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, assured the family of the deceased and residents of the state that all those found responsible for Mbaya’s death would be brought to justice.
“No stone will be left unturned in ensuring that all those responsible for the torture and eventual death of Ibrahim Mbaya face the full weight of the law,” he said.
