Plateau United the Nigerian Champions were knocked out of the CAF Champions
League despite recording a 1-0 win against Tunisian giants Etoile du
Sahel in their first round, second leg tie at the Sani Abacha Stadium,
Kano on Sunday,

The Nigerian Champions and Jos darling Team, playing in Kano because their New Jos Stadium home was
not approved by CAF, exited the competition on a 4-3 aggregate scoreline
after going down to a 4-2 defeat in the first leg.
Tosin Omoyele who was also on target in the first leg scored the only goal of the game five minutes before the half hour mark.
The hosts piled pressure on the Tunisians right from the blast of the
whitsle and nearly took the lead in the 11th minute but Peter Eneji’s
effort came off the crossbar.
Etoile du Sahel struggled to keep up with the pace of the game as
they were obviously affected by the hot Kano sun and used every
opportunity to gulp water into their system.
The breakthrough came for the hosts in the 25th minute when forward Omoyele scored the opening goal.
Kennedy Boboye’s men however failed to score the decisive second goal in the second half despite totally dominating the contest.
They have now dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs and will
now seek to secure a place in the group stages of the competition.
Nigeria’s other representatives in the competition, MFM FC, also
missed out on a place in the group stages of the CAF Champions League
after they lost 7-2 on aggregate to Algeria’s MC Alger on Saturday.
