The projects included the installation of a 50 solar panel lighting
system, the construction of a sculpture garden and the reticulation of
potable water in the students hostel.

from the administrative block to the students hostel and the library
complex, the Director of Works, who was represented by the university’s
electrician, Engr. David  Agwom, told the management that the solar
panels, which cost N16.6m, was the  latest of its kind in the market.

At the sculpture garden, where work had reached 95 per cent
completion, PLASU’s Head of Maintenance, Mr. Johnson Maren, disclosed
that they were still awaiting to take delivery of the sculpture to be
mounted in the middle of the garden, assuring that by the end of
November, the statue would be delivered to make the project ready for
official commissioning.

At the water reticulation site, which is currently functional, the

create a concrete walk way to connect the hostel to the water point.

Meanwhile, the VC has been presented with an award of excellence by
the National Association of Building Students (NAOBS) in recognition of

Presenting the award, national president of the association, Comrade
Shaibu Anthony, who led other officials of the body said the choice of
Prof. Izam was borne out of his dogged disposition on standardization
and mentoring of younger professionals.

He commended the VC for the role he played leading to the successful
hosting of the 2018 edition of the Annual General Meeting of the
Students wing of the association held at Akure.

Also speaking President of NAOB’s, University of Jos Chapter, Comrade
Omale Attayi, said the news of the appointment of Prof. Izam the VC of
PLASU did not come to them as a surprise considering the legacies he
left behind during his tenure as head of the Building Department.

Atayi described Prof. Izam as the first HOD to enroll graduating
students into the membership of the Nigerian Institute of Building which
according to him, guarantees seamless transition from studentship to
professionalism.

Responding, Prof. Izam described the current executives of the
association as special to him because he was instrumental to their
emergence as he presided over the elections that led to their victory at
the elections held in 2017 in Bauchi.

He added that, as future leaders in the nation’s building industry,
they should always adhere to professional codes of practice which
according to him, would protect the integrity of the profession and
check quackery in the practice.

Prof. Izam also applauded Governor Simon Bako and Visitor to the
University for making available funds for the execution of projects in
PLASU.

Said he, “I appreciate the visitor to the University Right Honourable
Simon Bako Lalong for making available funds for the execution of these
project and want to appeal to the government for the release of more
funds so that the second phase of the solar power project to run from
the administrative block to the gate can be completed and commissioned.”

While commending the staff handling the various projects, Prof. Izam
urged them to work hard in order to meet up with the stipulated dates
for their completion and prayed for a quick resolution of the issues
that led to the on-going strike by the Academic Staff Union of
Universities because  of the negative effects it has on students.
