As part of events marking the second anniversary of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s administration, the Plateau State Government has embarked on a media tour of strategic projects across the state to showcase two years of transformational governance and developmental strides.

The tour, held on Wednesday, May 28, brought together journalists and media practitioners who visited various infrastructure and service delivery projects being revived or newly initiated by the administration.

Speaking during the tour, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, revealed that the government has revived 17 out of 49 abandoned projects inherited from past administrations. “Many of these are already completed or nearing completion,” she said, adding that the projects were prioritized based on their direct impact on citizens’ lives.

According to the Commissioner, the projects cut across sectors like road infrastructure, education, health, and water. She also clarified that most of the ongoing projects are fully funded by the state government, with only a few supported through partnerships. “What we did was to ensure Plateau State met all conditions necessary to attract partnerships, but the majority of these projects are state-driven,” she added

The Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven, also disclosed that the revived projects span a total of 340.74 kilometers across all three senatorial zones of the state. “This is part of our broader goal to resuscitate over 3,000 kilometers of road networks that were left neglected for years,” he noted.

Some of the roads highlighted include Demshin Road, Jibam-Dokan Tofa, and the Gungji–Shuwer route. Ubandoma emphasized that the administration undertook a rigorous review process to adjust the original project costs in line with inflation and current standards before resuming work.

In the water sector, Engr. Apollos Simon Samchi, Managing Director of the Jos Water Services Commission, announced the revival of the Yelwa Water Treatment Plant, which had been abandoned for more than 15 years. With support from the World Bank, the plant now has the capacity to serve over 40,000 people and ease the burden on the Yakubu Gowon Dam.

“The water is now being transmitted to an overhead tank in Bukuru, and we have already extended the pipeline to new communities like Galet,” Samchi said, noting that the infrastructure had become outdated due to population growth and past crises.

The tour also covered the Panyam Fish Farm, which is undergoing major rehabilitation. Mr. Yenle, a supervisor at the farm, stated that 11 out of 44 ponds are now functional, with more set to be reactivated. “We’re grateful this administration took over before the farm collapsed completely,” he said. The farm, which spans 301 hectares, is being upgraded with new access roads and improved water management from the Kerang springs.

The government assured that more abandoned and critical projects would be revisited and completed in phases as part of its commitment to sustainable development and service delivery.

The commemoration continues Thursday, May 29, 2025, with a Statewide Thanksgiving Service scheduled to hold at the Polo Field in Jos at 9:00 AM. The celebration aims to reflect on the progress made and reaffirm the administration’s dedication to good governance, unity, and prosperity for the people of Plateau State.
