Bawa, a member of the Correspondents’ Chapel, is a two-time Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Plateau State Chapter, and former Zonal Secretary of NAWOJ Zone D. She was elected unopposed after Akeem Olatidoye of the Kwara State Council withdrew his aspiration.

The nomination received strong backing from the Plateau State Council Chairman, Ayuku Pwaspo, who moved a motion for Plateau’s candidate to be considered following the disqualification of the previous occupant, Ladi Emmanuel, on constitutional grounds. The motion was seconded by the Chairman of the Nasarawa Council, Salihu Alkali.

Until her election, Bawa had served the NUJ Plateau State Council in various capacities, earning recognition for her commitment, professionalism, and extensive experience in the field—qualities stakeholders believe will serve the Union well at the national level.

In his remarks, NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahya, congratulated Bawa on her election and urged her to be a team player while leveraging her wealth of experience to strengthen the Union’s operations.

Following her victory, Bawa was formally presented with a certificate of return by the National President, marking her official induction into the NUJ National Working Committee.
