Seven traders have sustained gunshot injuries after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle conveying them along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, as the traders were returning from the Kara Market in Bukuru.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, saying preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle conveying the traders was targeted.

According to the police, the seven injured victims were traced to the Military Clinic at Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they were receiving medical treatment.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to take full charge of the case and ensure that those responsible for the attack are identified and arrested.
The command also said tactical and anti-robbery teams had been deployed to strengthen security around the area, while intelligence gathering had been intensified to track down the perpetrators.
The police condemned the attack and urged residents to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
Meanwhile, reports from the area indicate that the vehicle was carrying traders returning from the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market. The identity of the attackers and their motive remain unclear as investigation continues.
