Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain in Plateau State,
Chief Alexander Mwolwus on Monday accused the ruling All Progressives
Congress (APC) of fueling internal crisis in the opposition PDP in the
State. Mwolwus made the allegation in a chat with journalists in Jos.
According to him, Messrs Gyang Badung and Emmanuel Macham had earlier
claimed to be the State PDP Chairman and Publicity Secretary,
respectively.
He further explained that the party had last month sued the two
aforementioned persons for allegedly causing rift in the party, and the
court granted them bail of N5 million each, with their sureties in like
sum.
The PDP Chieftain who was a former Special Adviser (SA) on Political
Affairs to Former Governor Jonah Jang, wondered why somebody who was on
bail could indulge in such an expensive action by forcefully trying to
take over the party Secretariat.
He maintained that the attempt by the duo to ensure the sealing of
the party Secretariat last Friday was the alleged handiwork of APC.
“We are aware of all the scheming of APC to disstabilize PDP on the Plateau to pave way for its victory come 2019.
“If it were the duo that paid the bail bond of N5 million with those
of their sureties, they won’t dare to do what they did last Friday.
“Unfortunately their sponsors have forgotten that PDP is so solid on
the Plateau and would definitely give the ruling party a good fight come
2019, ’’ he boasted.
He debunked the claim that the party Secretariat was sealed up by
security operatives, claiming, “even the Commissioner of Police did not
buy into such a cheap blackmail.’’
Mwolwus who also aspired for the Plateau Central Senatorial ticket
prior to the 2015 polls, called on the Governor Simon Lalong APC led
Government to concentrate on giving the people of the State the desired
governance by making life better for them, instead indulging in cheap
pull him down fight.
On the economic situation in the country, the PDP Chieftain said,
“many people are committing sucide and more are considering same because
of the hardship in the country caused by the prevailing economic
recession.”
Reacting to the allegations, the APC Publicity Secretary in the
State, Chindo Dafat, denied any involvement of APC in the crisis in PDP
on the Plateau.
Dafat said, “We have no hand in what is happening in PDP; what shall we gain from it?”
“We don’t have to cause confusion in the camps of the oppositions
before we can win elections in 2019, simply because we are solidly on
ground and in charge in Plateau”, he declared.
It would be recalled that bloodshed was averted last Friday evening
at the Plateau State PDP Secretariat in Jos, when a faction loyal to
Senator Alli Modu Sheriff tried to take over the place.
It took a combined team of security agencies to forestall the bloodshed.
While the group was still trying to force its way into the
secretariat, news leaked to a rival faction said to have been elected
through a congress and led by a former Minister of Sports, Damishi
Sango.
The development forced the police, officials of the Department of
State Services and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to
immediately take over the secretariat, frisking persons going in and out
of the place.
