A political group, Plateau North Unity Forum, has endorsed Professor Danladi Abok Atu as its preferred candidate for the Plateau North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a press briefing held at Villa Grande Hotel Hall in Jos, where the Forum, through its representative, Da Timothy Choji Kim, said the decision followed a thorough assessment of past legislative representation in the zone.

Addressing journalists and stakeholders, Kim stated that Plateau North has suffered from inadequate representation in the National Assembly, leading to slow development and limited progress across the six local government areas in the senatorial district.
According to him, the Forum—comprising diverse ethnic nationalities across the zone—was established to promote unity and foster inclusive development, noting that divisions along ethnic, religious, and cultural lines have hindered growth in the region.
“Our diversity should be our strength, not a source of division,” he said, adding that the group’s guiding philosophy is anchored on inclusiveness, cooperation, and collective progress.
He stressed the need for a new kind of leadership in the Red Chamber, describing it as one that must be impactful, responsive, and capable of addressing the socio-economic challenges facing the people.
Kim said the Forum identified Professor Atu after evaluating several potential aspirants, citing his academic credentials, leadership experience, and commitment to peacebuilding as key factors behind the endorsement.
Professor Atu, a scholar with a Ph.D. in Social Studies specializing in Peace Education and Social Rehabilitation, has previously served as Secretary and Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, as well as Secretary to the Plateau State Government.
The Forum highlighted his grassroots connection, experience in governance, and track record in community development, noting that his background in conflict resolution and reconciliation positions him as a unifying figure for the diverse communities in Plateau North.
It also commended his integrity, youth mentorship efforts, and capacity to attract development initiatives to the zone through his local and international networks.
The group further noted that its endorsement has gained support from various professional bodies and socio-economic groups, many of whom were present at the briefing.
While appreciating Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for promoting unity through dialogue, the Forum also acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in fostering national cohesion.
The Forum concluded by passing a vote of confidence in Professor Atu, describing him as a credible and capable candidate, and called on stakeholders and residents of Plateau North to rally behind his aspiration.
It urged citizens to set aside differences and work collectively towards achieving unity, sustainable development, and shared prosperity in the zone and beyond.
