Plateau Killings: President Buhari visit to Plateau, urges all to work together for peace

President Buhari who was in Plateau State following the massacre of over 100 people in fresh herdsmen attacks  to commiserate with the Governor, Government and People of Plateau State, as well as seek ways towards engendering enduring peace and security in the state.

The President was accompanied by Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu, Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazzau and Minister of Defence Monsur Dan Ali. 

President Mohammadu Buhari appealed to the people of Plateau State to bury their differences and work together for the peace of the State.



President Buhari stated this during a meeting with stakeholders on the current security situation held at the Banquet Hall of New Government House, Rayfield, Jos.



The President condemned the crisis and urged the leadership at every level to be awake of their responsibility of driving the peace process.



He commenserated with the bereaved stating that “Pls pass my message of condolence to those who lost loved ones”



In his speech, Gov Simon Lalong appreciated the President for coming personally after the visit of Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo, where far reaching decisions were reached after exhaustive discussions, attended by key stakeholders.



Lalong outlined steps taken by the government to stem the escalation of the crisis while further commending the additional critical support from the Federal Government.



Speaking further, he said arrests have been made and those implicated will face the full wrought of the law without fear or favour.



Lalong condemed acts of  annexation of ancestral lands, cattle rustlling and other vices that negate peace building.



He thanked Mr President for considering appeals for the establishment of Police mobile unit at Gashish and the fequest for compensation of victims.



In his openning remarks, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, Deputy Governor of Plateau State observed a minute’s silence for the bereaved.



Earlier, presentations were made by by Alh Mohammed Nura Chairman Miyette Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Mrs Florence Jambol, President of Berom Women Development Association (BEWDA).



The President was accompanied by Governors of Kebbi and Niger States, Ministers of Defence, Interior and that  of Information and Communication. Also on his team where the security chiefs including the chief of Army staff, chief of Naval Staff, Inspector General of Police and others. The major stakeholders in attendance were senior government officials, National and state assembly members, Traditional Rulers, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ja’amatu Nasril Islam (JNI) and a cross section of the leaders of thought.
