Plateau Indigenous Youth Coalition Raises Alarm Over Alleged Counter-Propaganda Against Security Agencies

The Coalition of Plateau State Indigenous Youth Bodies has raised concerns over an alleged plan by suspected terrorist networks to launch a counter-propaganda campaign against security agencies operating in Plateau State.

The Coalition, in a press statement dated October 23, 2026, alleged that some groups were planning to organise a world press conference in Abuja to accuse the Department of State Services (DSS), Mobile Police Force and Operation Rainbow of targeting Fulani communities in the state.

The statement, signed by four youth leaders representing various indigenous groups in Plateau, followed a press conference held by the Coalition at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Secretariat in Abuja on October 21. The group claimed that ongoing security operations had weakened criminal networks and contributed to a reduction in attacks on communities.

According to the Coalition, the planned campaign would include allegations of genocide against Fulani people, the supply of surveillance drones to indigenous communities and claims of ethnic bias against the Plateau State Director of DSS, Mr Paul Damian. The group described these anticipated claims as attempts to undermine security operations, although the allegations concerning the planned press conference have not been independently verified.

The Coalition further argued that security operations in areas affected by attacks and banditry should not be portrayed as persecution of any ethnic group. It called on the Federal Government, international organisations and the general public to scrutinise claims from all parties and ensure that allegations of human rights violations are investigated impartially.

The group also urged authorities to investigate those it believes may be behind the alleged campaign, while calling for an independent inquiry into the security situation and competing claims surrounding the operations.

Reaffirming its support for the DSS, Mobile Police Force and Operation Rainbow, the Coalition said it would continue to advocate for the protection of indigenous communities and other law-abiding residents of Plateau State.

The statement was jointly signed by Amb. Ezekiel Peter Bini, President of the Irigwe Youths Movement; Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, President of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association; Amb. Miri Timnan Nyantau, President of the Tarok Progressive Youths Association; and Jonathan Kyesmang Yusuf, President of the Mwaghavul Youths Movement.

There was no independent confirmation in the statement of the alleged planned press conference or the claims attributed to the groups concerned. The allegations and any counterclaims would require independent verification by the relevant authorities.
