Plateau Group Condemns Angwan Rukuba Killings, Backs Gov. Mutfwang Against ‘False Narratives’

A civic group, Plateau Progressive Minds for Positive Development, has strongly condemned the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, describing the attack as a heinous act carried out by unknown gunmen.

Speaking at a press conference in Jos, the group expressed sympathy with families of the victims and commended residents of the affected community for maintaining calm and resisting any form of reprisal.

The group also praised the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his swift response to the incident, particularly the imposition of a 48-hour curfew in Jos North and efforts to strengthen security presence in the area to prevent further escalation.

While calling on security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack and their alleged sponsors, the group decried what it described as “false and misleading narratives” surrounding the incident.

According to the group, allegations accusing Governor Mutfwang of complicity and targeting specific religious groups are unfounded and aimed at inciting division. It noted that the attack occurred on Palm Sunday in a predominantly Christian community, with victims reportedly belonging to the same faith.

The group further highlighted the governor’s efforts at promoting unity and religious tolerance across the state, citing initiatives such as infrastructure development in various communities, support for religious institutions, and sponsorship of pilgrims.

Reaffirming its support for the current administration, the group passed a vote of confidence on Governor Mutfwang, urging residents of Plateau State to remain united and support ongoing peacebuilding efforts.

The statement, signed by Morgan Armstrong Pam, Coordinator of the group, also called on youths to shun violence and contribute positively to the peace and development of the state.
