She commended the Nigerian Air Force for its professionalism, resilience and consistent contribution to peacebuilding on the Plateau, assuring that the state government remains appreciative and supportive of the efforts of security agencies.

“This gathering reaffirms not just our cultural diversity, but our unity of purpose. The Plateau State Government deeply appreciates the professionalism, resilience and sacrifices of the Nigerian Air Force in building a more peaceful Plateau,” she said.

According to her, the peace currently enjoyed in the state is a continuous process that requires sustained collaboration among members of the State Security Council and all security operatives. She called on all stakeholders to continue upholding the mandate of ensuring peace and stability across the state.

The commissioner also conveyed the warm regards of Governor Mutfwang to officers, airmen, airwomen and their families, noting that such events showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and strengthen national unity. She particularly appreciated the role of spouses and families of NAF personnel, whose support, she said, contributes significantly to the effectiveness of officers in the line of duty.

As a show of encouragement, she announced a donation to support National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving under the Nigerian Air Force.

Earlier in his address, the Commander, 551 NAF Station Jos, Air Commodore F.O. Bassey, said the 2025 socio-cultural activities were designed to strengthen unity, discipline and professional excellence among personnel.

He noted that the event goes beyond entertainment, serving as a platform to promote integrity, loyalty, respect and excellence, which are core values of the Nigerian Air Force.

“These activities reflect our unity in diversity and remind us that our strength lies in the people who serve, support and lead within this base,” Bassey stated.

The Air Commodore paid tribute to serving personnel, veterans and retirees, acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions to the growth and stability of the Air Force. He added that the theme of the 2025 activities—Cultural Unity and Professional Excellence—underscores the resolve to blend cultural heritage with military professionalism while promoting physical fitness, mental wellbeing and strong civil-military relations.

Former Plateau State Governor Joshua Dariye, who attended the event, commended the Nigerian Air Force for its role in maintaining peace and security in the state, describing their commitment as worthy of recognition.

Also speaking, the Liaison Director for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Security Agencies at the Plateau State Abuja Liaison Directorate, Hon. Ziphion Chrysanthus, said the event was vital for the emotional wellbeing of military personnel.

He noted that Plateau State has faced significant security challenges and emphasized the critical role of the Air Force in supporting other security agencies to curb insecurity. According to him, such gatherings help officers relax, bond and recharge emotionally, which ultimately enhances productivity and effectiveness.

Highlights of the event included colourful cultural displays from different ethnic groups, a tug-of-war competition, presentation of awards to outstanding airmen and women, the beating of the retreat, and the lighting of a bonfire, bringing the 2025 socio-cultural activities to a memorable close.
