The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has announced an extension for the ongoing local government elections in Plateau State. Originally scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., voting hours have now been extended by two hours in affected polling units, with the process expected to conclude by 5:00 p.m.

The extension was deemed necessary following unexpected challenges, including delayed arrival of sensitive election materials in certain areas. PLASIEC is actively addressing these delays to ensure all voters can participate fully.

A technical issue with the Voter Verification System (VVS) also caused temporary disruptions. The issue has since been resolved, and voting is proceeding with manual registers, as stated by PLASIEC Chairman Plangji Cishak. The commission’s technical team is working diligently to restore the system to full functionality.

PLASIEC remains committed to the integrity of the election process, assuring voters that every vote will count and that no eligible citizen will be denied the opportunity to vote due to these delays.

The commission thanked the public for their patience and cooperation, reiterating its dedication to conducting a free, fair, and transparent election. Further updates will be provided as necessary.
