Friday, 9th December, 2016 was a Special day in Jos, Plateau as
El-spice books hosted the Public Presentation of Selcan Miner; an
autobiography of a great icon, one of Nigeria’s outstanding personality on the occasion of his 84th birthday celebration. The event was held at the Eliel Center Jos, Plateau State.
The Guests at the public presentation included: Gen. Yakubu Gowon GCFR, Representative of The Vice President,
Federal Republic of Nigeria; Prof. Yemi Osinbajo GCON. Gen. T. Y. Danjuma who was Represented by Gen. J T Useni Rtd, Bar.
Simon Bako Lalong , Executive Governor of Plateau State Represented by the Deputy Governor Prof Sonni Tyoden, Representatives of the Government of Nassarawa, Benue and Taraba
State, Chief Jetro Akun, Chief Long Jang, Rt Gen. Dogon Yaro, Amb Yahaya Kwande, Lt Gen Chris Garba, Dr Bitrus Gani, Mr Bode Adediji, The Gbong Gbong Jos Represented by Arch PD Gyang and a host of eminent dignitaries.
Victor Prince Dickson MD and CEO of El-Spice Media Group (Publishers of the book and event organizers), gave a citation on the mind, thoughts and person of the celebrant, Selcan Minner.
There was a welcome address from the Chief Host,Bar.
Simon Bako Lalong , Executive Governor of Plateau State Represented by the Deputy Governor Prof Sonni Tyoden. Gen. Yakubu Gowon GCFR, the Special Guest of Honor gave a special address in which he talked more on the person and life experiences of the celebrant.
The
book was reviewed by Prof. Sunni Tyoden (Deputy Governor, Plateau State). Unveiling was by the the Chief Launcher Gen. TY Danjuma represented by Gen JT Useni and then the cutting of the Cake. Ven Selcan Miner Rounded off the occasion with so much gratitude and appreciated all present for the support.
Ven. Selcan
Miner, is one of the first Nigerian to rise to the position of District Officer
(D.O) in the North, he was the first Commissioner of Education Benue-Plateau
when it was created and was later elevated to the position of the Secretary to
the Government, during the J. D Gomwalk Administration. Ven. Selcan Miner has
successfully transverse the complex terrain of Politics, Religions and
Business.
This first Installment of his autobiography is
a documentary of Lessons, Values and Mercies and a bare-it-all chronicle of an
inner struggle of a shepherd boy that has grown to become an elder statesman
and a missioner; a very deep journey.
In
this autobiography, Selcan narrates how a vision of an eight year old boy in
Langtang became a contextual reference for a District Officer in the making of
Northern Nigeria, bringing him in close contact with great leaders of the North
like the Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello and the Sultan, Abubakar III. He
is a major player in the making of Benue-Plateau, a stake holder in the Middle
Belt and a role model in the Nigerian Project.
One
of the outstanding qualities of Selcan is Peace and Honour but very few know
how these traits were forged in the battle field of the mind how a 35 year old
conflict between The Call vs The Power refined Selcan into an extraordinary
gentleman. A pure breed Nationalist, Selcan in this book provides rare insights
into the problems and challenges in Nigeria and Plateau State as well as a
template for living a life of honour.
