The Rukuba Community of Bassa Local Government in Plateau State led by the Bache Women Development Association went on a peaceful demonstration on Tuesday 5th June to air their grievances on the continuous land encroachment by the 3rd Armored Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos Popularly Known as Rukuba Barracks.

The community in their protest sited the illegal confiscation of their lands at Ajisindu, Dutse-Kura, Kisadup etc; the indiscriminate and unnecessary blocking of roads which were in existence long before the barracks was sited; the constant molestation of community youths by the soldiers.

The rukuba community came in numbers and led the demonstration to the Barracks Gate where they insisted on laying their grievances to the GOC. The protest was held as they alleged that all options have been explored including efforts of the traditional rulers and other community leaders through dialogue with the General Officer Commanding which has often ended without a positive and lasting resolve

Mrs Elizabeth Akson Women Leader, while speaking with our correspondent described that they have denied their rights as land owners have suffered loss without any compensation and the illegal encroachment and trespass by the Army.
