The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has said his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a strategic realignment anchored on the ideals of unity, peace, and prosperity as envisioned by the founding fathers of Plateau State.

Governor Mutfwang made this known on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, during his grand reception into the APC at the Jos Polo Field, Jos North Local Government Area.

The Governor explained that his decision followed wide-ranging consultations and persuasions from key national leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

According to him, Plateau State was founded on the principle of collective destiny, where people are united by a shared purpose irrespective of religious, ethnic, or political differences.

He stated that his move to the ruling party is aimed at adding greater value to governance, repositioning the state for sustainable growth, and aligning Plateau State with President Tinubu’s economic reforms and welfare-driven policies.

Governor Mutfwang expressed confidence in the President’s leadership, assuring that Plateau State would reciprocate with massive support for the APC in the 2027 general elections.

He also appreciated the people of Plateau State for the trust and support accorded him since assuming office in 2023, pledging not to betray their confidence and promising to usher in an era of peace, unity, and prosperity across the state.

In his remarks, Vice President Kashim Shettima described Governor Mutfwang’s defection as a wise and courageous decision that would deepen unity, foster progress, and strengthen collaboration between the Plateau State Government and the Federal Government.

The Vice President commended the Governor’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in Plateau State and described the state as a producer of great leaders who have contributed immensely to national development.

He announced that construction work on the Jos–Akwanga Road would commence within three weeks and disclosed plans to engage 1,000 youths as forest guards as part of efforts to strengthen security in the state.

Also speaking, Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed Governor Mutfwang into the APC, expressing optimism that the development would usher in peace and accelerated growth in Plateau State.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, described the Governor’s decision as timely and strategic, urging party leaders and members to shun divisive tendencies and work together for the collective interest of the people.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, said the Governor’s entry into the party would boost development in Plateau State and strengthen support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the event and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, described the political realignment in Plateau State as historic, noting that it would translate into massive development and herald a new era for both the state and the nation.

The event attracted top political actors from across the country, including serving governors, members of the National and State Assemblies, members of the Plateau State Executive Council, local government chairmen, party leaders, and thousands of supporters from across Plateau State.
