Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has arrived in Jos, Plateau State, as part of a visit to communities affected by the recent security challenges in the state.# Peter Obi Visits Mangu Attack Community, Demands Decisive Action to Protect Lives
Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has visited Bin-Per community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State following the recent deadly attack that claimed more than 26 lives.
Obi arrived in Jos on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, before proceeding to Mangu to meet with residents affected by the attack and sympathise with families who lost loved ones. His visit was aimed at identifying with the community at a difficult time and assessing the situation on the ground.
The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who was accompanied by members of his team, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and solidarity with residents of the community.
Speaking during the visit, Obi urged the people to remain strong and united in the face of the tragedy.
He stressed that government at all levels must take decisive action to protect the lives and property of Nigerians, particularly communities affected by recurring violence.
According to him, the safety and security of citizens must remain a priority, adding that affected communities require not only adequate security but also sustained support to help them recover from the consequences of attacks.
Obi expressed concern over the security challenges confronting several communities in Plateau State and called for stronger measures to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
The visit comes weeks after the deadly attack on Bin-Per community in Mangu LGA. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang had earlier visited the community following the August 18 attack and described the incident as barbaric and unacceptable, while disclosing that security agencies had arrested some suspects in connection with the killings.
Residents and victims affected by the attack who spoke during Obi’s visit appreciated him for identifying with them and their families at a difficult moment.
The visit also adds to Obi’s previous engagements with communities affected by violence in Plateau State. In April 2025, he visited victims and families affected by attacks in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs and called for stronger efforts to protect lives and restore peace.
Obi’s visit to Mangu comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in Plateau State and growing calls for sustained security measures to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further loss of lives.
Obi, who arrived in Jos on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, is expected to proceed to Mangu Local Government Area, where he will meet with residents following a recent bandit attack in the area.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the former governor to assess the situation on the ground, interact with affected communities and express solidarity with victims of the attack.
Mangu has experienced repeated security challenges in recent years, with attacks affecting several communities and forcing residents to flee their homes.
Obi has consistently made insecurity a major part of his public engagements, calling for stronger protection of lives and property and improved support for communities affected by violence.
His visit to Plateau comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of the state and calls for authorities to strengthen security measures to prevent further attacks.
The former governor is also expected to engage with community leaders and other stakeholders during his visit to Mangu.
The visit forms part of Obi’s wider engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections, as he continues to meet Nigerians and discuss issues affecting communities across the country.
