Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has filed a defamation suit against activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju before the Anambra State High Court sitting in Onitsha.
Obi accused Adeyanju of making baseless, reckless, and malicious statements about him through his social media platforms, thereby damaging his reputation.
In the suit, the former presidential candidate is seeking an unreserved public apology from Adeyanju, alongside ₦1 billion as general damages and ₦500 million as exemplary damages.
Reacting to the development, Adeyanju confirmed the lawsuit in a post shared online, expressing relief that Obi had followed through on his earlier threat of legal action.
“Finally, Peter Obi has sued me. I am actually happy and relieved that he didn’t chicken out in the end. Interestingly, he dragged me all the way to Anambra State, even though he is almost always in Abuja where I reside. But no shaking, we move,” Adeyanju wrote.
