The Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has carried out a two-day intensive sanitation and roadside clearing exercise aimed at improving environmental safety and road accessibility across the state.
The exercise, conducted yesterday and today, mobilised about 300 community workers alongside PEPSA’s internal sanitation staff. The teams focused on clearing areas where overgrown shrubs and bushes had obstructed roads and posed risks to motorists and pedestrians.
Major routes and neighbouring communities benefited from the operation, including Polo to Hill Station Roundabout, Old Airport, Secretariat to Airforce Base–Yingi Road down to Rayfield, Rayfield Resort to Gut-Dwoi Road, Murtala Way, and Millionaires Quarters Road–Lamingo Road. The agency said the exercise will be extended to other locations in due course.
Throughout the operation, workers cleared blocked drainages, trimmed overgrown vegetation, and tidied roadside spaces, significantly improving visibility and safety along the affected corridors. PEPSA staff provided supervision and coordination to ensure efficient execution of the tasks.
Speaking on behalf of the Director General of PEPSA, Samuel Dapiya, the Director of Waste Management, Mrs. Naomi Longlam, called on residents and business owners along the cleared routes to take responsibility for their surroundings.
“We encourage everyone to trim shrubs, remove debris, and support this effort. Keeping Plateau clean is a collective responsibility that requires the participation of all,” she said.
PEPSA noted that routine clearing efforts help prevent bushfires, reduce pest breeding grounds, and promote a cleaner, healthier environment for residents. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with communities to maintain environmental safety across Plateau State.
