The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has directed its members nationwide to immediately halt the supply of gas and crude oil to Dangote Refinery.
The directive, contained in a letter signed by the union’s General Secretary, Lumumba Okugbawa, on Saturday, followed the refinery’s termination of over 800 workers allegedly for joining the union.
PENGASSAN accused the management of engaging in “illegitimacy, misinformation, and propaganda” instead of addressing the issues raised by the union.
“As you are aware, the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has disengaged our members in reaction to the exercise of their constitutional right to be unionised,” the letter read in part.
Consequently, the union ordered members to:
- Cut gas supply to the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company Limited,
- Shut all crude oil supply valves to Dangote Refinery, and
- Halt loading operations for any vessel headed to the facility.
The development comes shortly after Dangote confirmed the dismissal of the affected workers, accusing them of sabotage.
PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, had earlier insisted that all the sacked workers must be reinstated by the refinery.
