Over 12,000 residents of Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State have benefited from a four-day free mega medical outreach organized by the Senator representing Adamawa Southern Senatorial District, Senator (Rev.) Binos Dauda Yaroe.

The outreach, which has just concluded, exposed the deep-rooted healthcare challenges faced by many rural dwellers, as beneficiaries shared emotional testimonies of long years of suffering due to inability to afford medical treatment.

Many of the patients disclosed that the medical care they received during the outreach would have cost them hundreds of thousands, and in some cases millions of naira, if accessed in conventional hospitals.

One of the beneficiaries, Malam Bello Buba Mohammed, said he had lived with a tumor for more than 25 years after visiting over ten hospitals without receiving treatment due to financial constraints.

According to him, each hospital demanded not less than ₦700,000 for surgery, a cost he could not afford. He said hope returned when he was informed about the free medical outreach at Demsa Cottage Hospital.

“My son told me about Senator Binos’ free medical outreach and encouraged me to attend. I reluctantly agreed. After several tests, I was operated on successfully and free of charge,” Mohammed said. “Nobody asked about my religion or tribe. I feel much better now and will be discharged today. I sincerely thank Senator Binos for changing my life.”

Another beneficiary, Ms. Naomi Samuel, also narrated how she had almost lost hope after being asked to pay nearly ₦500,000 for treatment at various hospitals.

“I did not have the money, and I was helpless,” she said. “But God used Senator Binos to rescue me. I received treatment free of charge. I will remain grateful and pray that God blesses him abundantly.”

Other beneficiaries, including Rev. Yunana Kwantintang and Ms. Hauwa Aminu, described Senator Binos as their saviour and expressed gratitude for the intervention.

Speaking to journalists after inspecting the outreach, Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe thanked God for the success of the programme, noting that he was fulfilled seeing residents receive quality healthcare without barriers.

He described health as a fundamental human need and reaffirmed his commitment to improving the wellbeing of his constituents through continuous medical interventions.

“There is nothing one can do in life without good health,” the senator said. “I place health as a top priority because I value the wellbeing of my people.”

He also commended the medical team for their dedication and urged residents to always prioritize their health to enable them contribute meaningfully to societal development.

The Lead Medical Consultant, Prof. Michael Misauno, disclosed that although the team initially planned to attend to 15,000 patients, over 12,000 were successfully treated during the four-day exercise.

“The medical personnel were on ground, modern equipment was available, and quality drugs were in stock,” he said. “We treated all patients who came, including surgical cases.”

Prof. Misauno added that only four complicated cases were referred to a teaching hospital, noting that Senator Binos had agreed to cover the cost of their treatment.

He described the outreach as unique due to the quality of medical services provided and expressed satisfaction at being part of the life-saving initiative.
