The Oyo State Government has dismissed reports claiming it intends to impose taxes on social events such as burials, weddings, and naming ceremonies across the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government described the viral report as false and mischievous, aimed at discrediting the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Oyelade clarified that any legitimate government document relating to taxes or levies must include a valid revenue code for payment and bear the signature of the Chairman of the Oyo State Internal Revenue Board—features the circulated document clearly lacked.
He added that the alleged notice also failed to include the official address of the Oyo State Internal Revenue Office, a standard element in authentic government communications.
