The Osun State Government has defended its record on public spending, insisting that state resources are being managed prudently and in line with due process under Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Speaking during an interview on Westernspring Television in Osogbo, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed opposition claims of financial mismanagement, describing them as misleading and unfounded.

Rasheed stated that the administration adheres strictly to procurement laws and applies “value for money” principles in executing projects, adding that infrastructure initiatives funded by the state are visible, verifiable, and directly beneficial to residents.

He also refuted allegations that the governor spent ₦92 billion on feeding, calling the claim baseless.

“It is a lie from the pit of hell,” Rasheed said, attributing such assertions to “mischief or financial illiteracy.”

According to him, government expenditure is spread across multiple sectors and agencies, making it inaccurate to attribute large sums to a single line item.

The spokesperson further accused opposition figures of resisting the state’s “local content” policy, which prioritizes the use of local contractors and professionals in project execution.

He maintained that the administration remains committed to empowering indigenous engineers while delivering quality infrastructure, noting that ongoing and completed projects—including roads, bridges, schools, and healthcare facilities—meet standard engineering specifications.

Rasheed highlighted investments across key sectors such as transportation, health, education, agriculture, water infrastructure, staff welfare, pensions, and empowerment programmes, stating that these efforts are aimed at improving livelihoods and driving development across the state.

He also alleged that some opposition groups are politically motivated and are attempting to undermine governance through control of local government finances.

Despite the criticisms, Rasheed reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency and delivering measurable outcomes for the people of Osun State.
