The Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Maj.-Gen Ibrahim Ali has urged youths in Plateau to embrace one another and channel their energy towards pursuing issues that will bring them together in the interest of peaceful co-existence and the development of their communities.
Maj.-Gen Ibrahim Ali said this while engaging over 200 Irigwe and Fulani youths in a peace dialogue with a view to ending the killings of innocent people in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The First Irigwe & Fulani Youths of Bassa LGA Summit 2022 organized by Operation SAFE HAVEN which was held yesterday at Lamonde Hotel Jos, was to foster peace and unity, among the two warring ethnic groups.
The Commander praised the report of the 36-member committee set up to engage the warring communities. He said the recommendation of the committee if thoroughly implemented, would bring an end to the violent attacks and killings.
Immediate past chairman, Plateau Peace Practitioners Network, Mr. Mugu Zakka Bako, and the founder of Displaced Women and Children Foundation, Mallam Salis Abdulsalam delivered talks on peaceful coexistence, urging youths to build on their unique differences rather than resort to violence which nobody will be awarded for at the end.
The speakers further laid emphasis on the need for a change as “we cannot continue like this with little conflicts spreading here and there”. Stating that “Guns don’t Kill People but it is People that Kill People” they insisted that youths irrespective of tribe or religion should first look on the side of humanity which is a facto that binds us all.
Representatives of the Irigwe and Fulani youths embraced each other and vowed to work together to expose criminal elements who are bent on fomenting trouble in the areas.
