A two-storey building collapsed on Wednesday evening at No. 4 Modupeola Street, near Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., left one man trapped beneath the rubble while five other occupants were rescued. The immediate cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.
Operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other first responders were seen in viral videos coordinating rescue operations at the site.
The trapped victim, a 44-year-old resident of Olabode Street, sustained multiple fractures and bruises before being pulled out of the debris. He was rushed to the Surgical Emergency Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the man was admitted in stable condition.
“The five rescued persons were taken to a private hospital within the community. He arrived at LASUTH stable and was immediately placed on further treatment,” Omotoso said.
The Lagos State Government has since ordered a full-scale investigation into the cause of the collapse to prevent future occurrences.
