At least one person has been confirmed dead, while seven others sustained injuries following the collapse of the new Gombe State House of Assembly complex, which is currently under construction.
The incident occurred on Friday, trapping several construction workers beneath the rubble before emergency responders launched a rescue operation.
The Head of Operations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Gombe, Ummanah Ahmed, confirmed the incident, saying all the victims were evacuated from the site for medical attention.
According to Ahmed, three of the injured workers were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe, while five others were transported to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital. He noted that some of the victims sustained severe injuries.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the building collapse, and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The collapse has raised concerns over safety standards at construction sites, with officials expected to provide further details as the investigation progresses.
