In a landmark judgment delivered today, Monday, 9th October 2023, a Lagos High Court has sentenced police officer Darambi Vandi to death by hanging for the shooting death of Lagos-based lawyer Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem on Christmas Day in 2022.
The sentencing was carried out by Justice Ibironke Harrison, who presided over the case.
Recall that the tragic incident occurred on December 25, 2022, at the Ajah Roundabout on the Lekki-Expressway in Lagos State when the defendant, Darambi Vandi, shot Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem in the chest.
The prosecution team, led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, presented a compelling case during the trial. They called a total of 11 witnesses, including eight police officers, two eyewitnesses, and a pathologist, to provide evidence.
