The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed online reports claiming that a TikTok user identified as Mirabel was arrested over her viral rape allegation, clarifying that no such detention has taken place. Authorities confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The incident gained widespread attention after Mirabel shared emotional videos on TikTok alleging she had been assaulted, prompting public sympathy, outrage, and calls for justice across social media platforms.
In a statement, the police explained that Mirabel had contact with law enforcement as part of the ongoing inquiry, but she was not in custody. The command urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigators work to establish the facts.
The clarification comes amid growing online speculation suggesting that the allegation was false and that Mirabel had been taken into police custody. Influential social media commentators, including activist VeryDarkMan, had weighed in on the matter, fuelling debate and conflicting narratives.
Authorities emphasised that no official conclusion has yet been reached. They warned that premature claims—whether asserting the allegation to be true or false—could hinder due process and discourage victims from reporting similar cases.
The police reiterated that the investigation remains active and assured the public that official findings would be released once inquiries are concluded.
The case continues to generate intense online attention, highlighting the growing influence of social media in shaping public perception of criminal allegations before official outcomes are determined.
