The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed allegations that security agencies are planning corruption charges against former presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking in an interview with Punch, Tanko maintained that the former Anambra State governor has no criminal record and has never been indicted by either the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission or the Department of State Services.

His comments followed reports suggesting that Obi and other opposition figures linked to the African Democratic Congress could face arrest amid what supporters describe as political pressure, including developments surrounding former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Other prominent politicians reportedly mentioned in connection with the alleged watchlist include former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Tanko insisted that Obi and his supporters would not be intimidated, stressing that the former presidential candidate’s record had already been scrutinised by both Nigerians and security institutions.

He further alleged that actions by the current administration indicate preparations to pressure opposition figures, arguing that such moves are tied to political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, recent political developments and legislative actions suggest attempts to influence the electoral landscape, though he maintained that Nigerians would ultimately resist any perceived effort to undermine democratic processes.
