Former U.S. President Barack Obama has unveiled his annual list of favourite books, movies, and music, with Nigerian Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Olamide earning spots on the 2025 music selection.
Obama released the lists on Thursday, highlighting Burna Boy’s Tatata featuring Travis Scott and Olamide’s 99, which features Daecolm, Seyi Vibez, Asake, and Young Jonn, among his favourite songs of the year.
Also making the list is Not In Surrender by British-Nigerian singer Obongjayar, further underscoring the growing global recognition of African music.
Other prominent artists featured on the former president’s music list include American superstars Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Lady Gaga, Gunna, and Canadian rapper Drake.
Sharing the lists on his verified X handle, Obama wrote, “As 2025 comes to a close, I’m continuing a tradition that I started during my time in the White House: sharing my annual lists of favorite books, movies, and music. I hope you find something new to enjoy.”
