Nuru Shehu has resigned from his position as the Constituency Liaison Officer to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, representing Jos North-North.

In a statement made available to journalists, Shehu disclosed that he submitted his resignation letter to the office of the Executive Governor, His Excellency Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Thursday, December 19, 2025.

In the resignation letter addressed to the governor, Shehu expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the administration, describing the experience as impactful and transformative. He thanked Governor Mutfwang for the trust reposed in him and the chance to contribute to the government’s work.

According to the letter, Shehu said his decision to step down followed careful reflection and was guided by his personal convictions. He formally announced his resignation from his role as Liaison Officer for the Jos North-North State constituency while reaffirming his commitment to the advancement of democracy in Nigeria.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your visionary leadership and to contribute during my tenure,” the letter read in part.

Shehu, an ardent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), did not state specific reasons for his resignation beyond personal convictions. However, his decision has generated speculation within political circles.

Unconfirmed reports have linked the resignation to the recent announcement by the national leadership regarding the alleged defection of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the All Progressives Congress (APC). As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation connecting Shehu’s resignation to the reported political development.

Neither the Plateau State Government nor the governor’s office has issued an official response to the resignation.
