Former Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has expressed concern following a reported robbery at a church in Delta State.
Adejobi reacted after a 45-year-old man identified as Lawrence Onowenakpo was reportedly arrested on September 19 while fleeing with other suspected members of his gang.
According to reports, the suspects were intercepted while travelling in two Toyota Sienna vehicles allegedly loaded with musical equipment stolen from a church.
Reacting in a social media post, Adejobi lamented what he described as a decline in moral values, noting that places of worship were traditionally regarded as sanctuaries where people could seek refuge.
He expressed concern that criminal activities such as kidnapping and armed robbery were increasingly being reported even around places of worship.
Adejobi said the incident was another indication of changing societal values and questioned the level of respect now accorded to religious institutions.
The reported arrest followed the recovery of the musical equipment allegedly taken from the church, while investigations into the incident were said to be ongoing.
