No Competition Between Dangote Refinery and NNPC – Dangote

President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has clarified that there is no rivalry between his $20 billion refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), stating that both entities are working toward a common goal of ensuring Nigeria’s energy security.

Dangote made this known during a visit to the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja, where he met with the recently appointed Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari. The meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration and fostering a healthy partnership between the state-owned oil company and the privately-owned refinery.

The visit and Dangote’s remarks were confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye.

“There is no competition between us; we are not here to compete with NNPC Ltd. NNPC is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of cooperation between the two organisations.” Dangote added.

It could be recalled that there seemed to be an unhealthy rivalry between the state-owned energy company and the $20bn refinery until recently, especially with the supply of crude oil in naira.
Dangote recently alleged that some cabals were still fighting against his refinery, though he clarified that the cabals were the major marketers and not the new NNPC board.
However, speaking at the meeting, Dangote pledged to collaborate with the new NNPC management to ensure energy security for Nigeria.
The two firms agreed to deepen collaboration aimed at ensuring Nigeria’s energy security and advancing shared prosperity for Nigerians.
