The NNPC Limited has announced the successful completion of the River Niger crossing segment of the OB3 Gas Pipeline, marking a major milestone in the country’s gas infrastructure development.
The company disclosed that the crossing—executed approximately two kilometres beneath the নদ Riverbed using advanced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology—unlocks a transmission capacity of up to 2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day (scf/day). The development is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial growth, power generation, and overall energy security.
NNPC noted that the achievement builds on the success of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) pipeline crossing and reflects a combination of innovative engineering, careful execution, and collaboration with project partners, including PCE Nig Limited.
The company expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his Gas-to-Prosperity initiative, as well as to its Board led by Ahmadu Musa Kida, host communities, and staff of the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) for their support.
According to NNPC, the OB3 pipeline—linking eastern and western gas networks and connecting to the AKK pipeline—delivers over 500 million scf/day of domestic gas supply.
The AKK pipeline is expected to supply gas to power plants, fertilizer companies, and manufacturing industries across Kaduna, Kano, and surrounding regions, while also supporting exports within West Africa, job creation, economic diversification, and improved energy access.
