Nigeria has confirmed their place at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, even before the kick-off of their game against Benin Republic in Porto Novo, which the super eagles won by 1-0.
The super Eagles defeated the Squirrels of Benin in Port Novo by a lone goal as fellow Group L members, Lesotho and Sierra Leone in the early kick-off had a goalless draw.
The result means Lesotho can no longer qualify for next year’s tournament in Cameroon.
It also means Sierra Leone and Benin cannot match the Super Eagles’ current tally of eleven points.
The Leone Stars now have four points after four matches, while their hosts have three, with one round of fixtures left.
Gernot Rohr’s men left it late in Benin for a well-deserved victory for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The three-time African champions are now sure to finish top of the group with 11 points with Benin on 7 points.
